There is no more bear coins in HK Kitco, so $35 is a good choice. Apmex is selling at more than $40. I also want two hockey coins, I am willing to pay $45 each if they were available in HK.
That reminds me that someone try to sell the hockey maple back to bochk, and actually receive less money than the maples...
Sadly there is a limit to my pay cheque and how much I could spend on silver. Still cant decide which silver coin I should go after, or should I get a gold coin...
So how much is 好旺角 selling the hockey coin? I do want to sell coins but dont know if you guys know I am in North America, so for me to sell coins to you guys, I have to ship in fedex/ups. I cant really justify the cost unless I sell a certain quantity, plus I dont know prices (except from kitco and boc)
With a tube of 25 coins shipping comes to $125usd which is an extra $5 per coin. Assuming you are ordering the wolf or hockey you are paying about $50 USD per coin, which is around $400 per coin.
Besides the money problem there is also a faith/trust issue about wiring the money etc. So it is not easy...
$800 HKD is a rip off, that is like 3.x times the price of silver Well for funds you probably have to wire it to my bank account in USD here.
Second thing, if like you say you want to get ONLY two hockey coins. Then shipping is like $90USD, so your final cost per coin is $90 including shipping. $90*7.8=$702HKD, not much difference than the price at 好旺角. Now if you order more shipping is going to be less.
10 coins shipping is $105, so final cost per coin is $55.5, which is still high IMHO.
If using my local postal service, the price is about half of Fedex/UPS, delivery time is 10 business days. But Fedex/UPS gives you a peace of mind.
After I did the math, I realize selling coins in small quantity is difficult, no economy of scale.
Also all these costs doesn't even include any profit on my side. Well maybe I can do a few sales without profit to see how it is, after all there is minimal risk on my side.
Kitco is one of the distributor of RCM, so they could order directly from them. I phone and ask, there is less than 10 distributor, and to be distributor they must order a certain quantity, and be market maker.
I manage to find a LCS near my place that sells the 3 Olympic maple leaf for $40 each. Probably go there next week an buy buy buy. Let me know if you want some, sadly they don't ship to HK. If you can mix and match them up to a tube of 25, it might be worth it.
I think selling coins from where I am would not work. The only thing I have to offer that is cheaper and HK does not have are the two wildlife + 3 hockey. I think it cost too much to ship back to HK. I try it with a monster box, shipping comes to $1000 USD compare to my LCS which can send it at $250. So I guess coin shop have cheaper shipping that I cant match.

Bear is bargain than cougar, that is the answer.
ReplyDeleteBut I can't say for sure whether wolf is a good buy. It cost $10 more but it is the first generation.

HoMK is selling HKD800/pc. Only one shop has hockey.
ReplyDeleteYes,the problem is how to pay you the money. If you had a bank a/c in HK, it may be a solution.

ReplyDeletekidthief, you are right,no economy of scale in buying/selling small qty of coins. You remind me there is T/T charge in wiring you the payment.
ReplyDeleteWill you come back to HK this year?
1/2 oz timber wolf.
I might come back this summer? But I am not sure, plane ticket equals to 53oz silver...
DeleteToo bad I dont have any friends that travel a lot, otherwise I could partner up with them.
yes, i agree, shipping cost a lot for few coins. That's the role of wholesale. There is also the role of trading.

ReplyDeleteLets hope I could come back to HK, haven't been back in a while. That is a great idea, the more quantity, the less shipping cost.
